Behind the creation of my custom-made wedding dress is Annabé Créations Singulières, whose pretty story I explained in a previous article about this sewing workshop located between Paris and Laval, in France.

I also detailed in another post the whole process of co-creating my wedding dress with Johanna Benuszak, talented seamstress behind the brand Annabé.

Today, I would like to talk to you in detail about the selection and the purchase of the fabrics used to make my wedding dress, at the prestigious Stragier house!

The bridal area of the Stragier store, near Brussels, in Belgium

So, in the process of creating my wedding dress, Johanna first made three muslins (see my detailed article on this subject). Then, when the time came to choose the "final" fabrics for my dress, Johanna told me that in Belgium, where I live, there was a renowned drapery store in the world of weddings: the house of Stragier, located in Nil-St-Vincent, in Wallonia, about 40 kilometers from Brussels. There is no chance in life!

On Johanna's advice, I chose to book a customized consultation at the Stragier store. This is a consultation of several hours with a Stragier expert who welcomes you, guides you from start to finish according to your wishes and your budget and clarifies each of your doubts and questions. It also allows you to see, touch and appreciate the look of the different fabrics before selecting them. This consultation must be booked in advance and can take place on Friday or Saturday.

This consultation is not free (99 euros), but it allows you to take advantage of the Internet discount prices, which allows you to recover all or part of the cost of the consultation.

I sincerely recommend choosing such a consultation because it allows you to select your fabrics in the best possible conditions, with all the time and expertise necessary, which is all the more appreciable knowing that you are making a decision about the fabrics for THE most important dress of your life!

The roll of the silk cloth selected for my wedding dress

On the day of the custom consultation at Stragier, thank goodness Johanna was there! I knew what I wanted my dress to look like, but I had no idea how to convert that image in my head into a concrete fabric choice, or how much fabric I needed. So, I first explained to the lovely Stragier consultant what my expectations were, and in consultation with Johanna, they both guided me for three hours to purchase the most suitable fabrics.

In my case, I wanted a dress with clean and elegant lines, without lace, in a thick yet shimmering fabric. We ended up with the following fabric choices, which I'll list below (FYI, I'm 5'7" and a size 10 / size M):

- Silk cloth (7,60m).

- Moroccan crêpe peach skin (0,40m).

- Silk pongee (6,60m).

- Extra fine organza (0,25m).

- Petticoat tulle (2,80m).

- Semi-supple tulle (5,00m).

- Lichette (1,35m).

- Buttons (40).

- Bra shells (1).

- Underarms (1).

This made-to-measure consultation at Stragier was a wonderful experience, both moving and rich in learning, because I discovered a new world in terms of the vocabulary of sewing, it was a whole new language for me!

Moreover, the Stragier boutique, all in wood, is magnificent and old-fashioned and proves to be a real Ali Baba's cave, we don't want to leave because we discover so many treasures there! It also benefits from a beautiful natural light, perfect for selecting fabrics.

Finally, it is also possible to make your choice of Stragier fabrics remotely, on the online store, which is extremely well designed to guide you step by step and in detail in your purchases. You can also order samples online if you feel the need to see and touch the fabrics before finalizing your choice. You can also ask to be accompanied by email or during a telephone appointment.

In conclusion, if you can, do not hesitate to co-create the wedding dress of your dreams with Annabé Créations Singulières and to choose the Belgian house Stragier for your fabrics. The result can only be sublime and, above all, in your image!
